Three Day Water Fast

DAY ONE

As the first day of my three day water fast comes to an end, I can see the importance of fasting on a regular basis. I know that my mind, body, and spirit needs this so I’m willing to stick it out beyond the headaches and fatigue.

I started my fast at midnight with my cousin/friend. We both knew that it wouldn’t be easy since neither one of us had fasted in a while, but we figured two was better than one. When one person is tempted to quit, the other is there to encourage progression.

My morning started off with 5 a.m. prayer and reading the Bible. I’ve decided to challenge myself in this regard as well, by reading the entire Bible this year.

So what do I hope to gain out of this fast? I hope to have more clarity and strength to make healthy choices in 2025. I hope for the cleansing of my body in the natural and spiritual. My relationship with God could use some mending and I also have a few people who I’ve set before Him.

Here’s to day one and a better day two.

DAY TWO

Day two was a little difficult. Admittingly, I thought about food a lot after not getting enough sleep the night prior. I awoke at 2 in the morning and couldn’t fall back asleep. I read the Bible, prayed, and then my thoughts wondered for the remainder of the morning. There is so much more to fasting than I realize. You have to go into with direct focus or your day may end up like my day two.

Although I felt like this day could’ve gone better, I’m still happy that I stayed committed.

DAY THREE

Somehow on a water fast, I seemingly forgot to stay hydrated. A lot of my symptoms and discomfort was a direct result of not drinking enough water. I prayed and read the Bible but again, a large portion of my day went to looking forward to the fourth day.

What I’ve learned from fasting this week is that if it’s not a fast out of necessity, you really need to plan for it. Meaning, prepare your mind. Know why you’re fasting and what you intend to get from it. If it’s to draw closer to God, you have to be purposeful about it. Prayer, meditation, and reading the Bible should be your daily activities. If you’re fasting to discipline your flesh, stay clear of social media and all forms of entertainment.

There are so many benefits to fasting in the natural and the spiritual. The next time that I fast, for whatever reason, my mindset will be totally different. Thank God that I made it through, and I hope that He noticed the sacrifice although not perfect.
